The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national level exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India. The exam is conducted twice a year (usually in July and December) and is aimed at determining the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers in classes I to VIII. The CTET exam is conducted in two papers – Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is for candidates who intend to teach classes I to V, while Paper II is for candidates who intend to teach classes VI to VIII. Candidates who intend to teach classes I to VIII have to appear for both papers. The CTET exam consists of multiple-choice questions and is conducted in offline mode. The exam is of 2.5 hours duration, and candidates have to score a minimum of 60% to be eligible for the CTET certificate. The CTET certificate is valid for seven years from the date of declaration of the result. The CTET exam syllabus covers topics such as Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I and II, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, and Social Science. Candidates who qualify the CTET exam become eligible to apply for teaching positions in various government schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, and Navodaya Vidyalayas in India.
